Walking Through Fear: Belonging, Resistance, and Ritual in Photography
Course Number: 62283
This interdisciplinary photography course supports students in developing sustained, self-directed photographic practices that engage intimacy, resistance, self-representation and historical inquiry. We examine photographs as records of care, desire, grief and community, and as sites of confrontation and refusal. Through weekly shooting, critiques and discussion, students build cohesive projects while engaging in process, failure, revision and risk. Readings and screenings foreground artists addressing lived experience, visibility and invisibility, queerness and embodiment, race and representation, personal archives, performance, and the porous boundary between documentary and fiction, with attention to sequencing, installation and shifting contexts. A lab fee is charged for this course.
